01 / ABOUT
The whole system.
The entire process.
I'm William Troiano. A senior software engineer, software architect, and independent builder based in North Carolina.
For more than 26 years, I've been turning complex problems into reliable software.
Much of my career has involved taking responsibility for the entire engineering function. Understanding the problem, designing the architecture, building the application, connecting the systems, deploying it, and keeping it working in production.
That has meant working across backend and frontend development, databases, APIs, integrations, infrastructure, security, and production troubleshooting. I enjoy seeing how those pieces fit together, and making decisions with the whole system in mind.
Ownership from beginning to end.
A feature doesn't exist in isolation. It has to work with the data, the deployment process, the business requirements, and the people who use it. I bring that broader perspective to the work.
I've built new platforms, modernized existing systems, integrated business applications, and worked through the problems that only show up once software is in production. At Sago, that included sole engineering responsibility for a membership platform supporting millions of annual sessions and thousands of transactions per hour.
Today, I’m the sole engineer for core rewards technology at 99Ventures, developing the next version of the platform while keeping live systems running. That balance of modernization and ongoing operations is central to how I approach engineering.
Adaptable by habit.
Tools and technologies have changed throughout my career. The durable skills are understanding a problem, choosing sensible tradeoffs, and building something that can be maintained.
My work spans REST APIs, SaaS and multi-tenant applications, queues, third-party integrations, and systems that share administration across multiple domains.
I’ve worked with PHP, JavaScript and TypeScript, Laravel, Vue, React, Next.js, and the TALL Stack: Tailwind CSS, Alpine.js, Laravel, and Livewire. Data systems include MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and SQLite.
On the operations side, that includes Docker, Linux, Git, GitHub Actions, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, performance optimization, and practical automation with tools such as n8n. The technology serves the problem.
Still exploring what's possible.
AI-assisted development is already part of my professional practice. I use it for implementation, refactoring, testing, and code analysis, with architectural constraints, coding standards, static analysis, and human review guiding the work. I’m also exploring agentic workflows, orchestration, automation, and developer tools.
I see AI as an accelerator of engineering expertise. Architecture, maintainability, quality, and judgment remain essential. I'm interested in practical ways to make useful software, and in learning what these tools can contribute to the process.
